- CSA Group and ASTM International agreed to jointly develop a binational BDO Zone Standard, building on CSA TS-005:25, with final publication expected in early 2027.
“Markets do not develop simply because demand exists. They develop because trusted institutions, common standards, and credible market intelligence reduce uncertainty, build confidence, and enable capital to flow efficiently,” said Jordan Solomon, Chairman of the BDO Zone Initiative. “These milestones represent more than organizational growth. Together, they demonstrate that BDO Zones are evolving into the foundational market infrastructure needed to support the next phase of bioeconomy expansion.”
The report also previews Green Data Center Opportunity (GDO) Zones, extending the BDO Zone methodology to data centres and AI infrastructure powered by clean, dispatchable bio-based power. Full details will be announced in Q4 2026.

About The BDO Zone Initiative
The Biofuel Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone Initiative certifies ‘regional readiness’ for bio-manufacturing, creates global connections and ignites an influx of new energy opportunities for farmers, economic developers, and rural businesses. A BDO Zone rating is an internationally recognized, standards-based technical risk assessment of a region’s feedstock, supply chain, and infrastructure risk with respect to the development potential for new biofuel plants. BDO Zone ratings are site location bullseyes for bio-project development. Investment grade ratings are force-multipliers for attracting new manufacturing plants to the areas where they are most likely to succeed, drive investment and create jobs.
