Beausejour-Brokenhead’s ‘A’ rating indicates high prospective viability to support new biobased plant operations, with low risk associated with Feedstock Supply and Infrastructure in the Zone. The BDO Zone is a high-yield wheat production area with multi-generational, locally established grain and cattle producers experienced in wheat straw harvesting and utilization. The region offers experienced custom baling capacity ready to scale up production for new projects, with no large-scale competition for wheat straw. With various industrial lots available around the region, Beausejour Brokenhead provides a strategic location for bio-industries, with access to major highways, rail infrastructure, utilities, and a competitive cost of living.
“Our ‘A’ rating highlights the transformative potential of our wheat straw resources and provides a unique opportunity to foster innovation in our community.”
“Our region has a long history rooted in agriculture and we’re now shovel-ready and eager to build on that foundation by partnering with biobased companies and establishing Beausejour Brokenhead as a hub for biomass manufacturing in Eastern Manitoba.”
“As the first BDO Zone for agricultural biomass in Manitoba, this investment-grade ‘A’ rating will unlock untapped markets for wheat straw utilization and validates the regions exceptional potential in the global bioeconomy.”

About The BDO Zone Initiative
The Biofuel Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone Initiative certifies ‘regional readiness’ for bio-manufacturing, creates global connections and ignites an influx of new energy opportunities for farmers, economic developers, and rural businesses. A BDO Zone rating is an internationally recognized, standards-based technical risk assessment of a region’s feedstock, supply chain, and infrastructure risk with respect to the development potential for new biofuel plants. BDO Zone ratings are site location bullseyes for bio-project development. Investment grade ratings are force-multipliers for attracting new manufacturing plants to the areas where they are most likely to succeed, drive investment and create jobs.
