Choctaw County, Alabama Issued BDO Zone 'A' Rating for Woody Biomass
– ‘A’ Rating to Supercharge New Markets for Underutilized Wood Fiber –
August 27, 2026 – Choctaw County Economic Development Alliance, Ecostrat and the BDO Zone Initiative are pleased to announce the issue of a BDO Zone ‘A’ Rating for Choctaw County, Alabama. The BDO Zone is rated for 1,040,500 bone dry tons per year of low-risk woody biomass and spans a 75-mile drive radius from its central point in Butler, AL.
Choctaw County’s ‘A’ rating denotes high prospective viability of Feedstock Supply and Infrastructure and low expectations of default risk in the Zone. The region’s deeply established forest products supply chain ensures reliable feedstock availability, and underutilized forest residues represent a significant, largely uncontested opportunity. The rated anchor site is the Choctaw Industrial Park, a 140-acre Light Industrial/Forestry-zoned parcel on US Highway 10 in Butler, Alabama, within a Federal Opportunity Zone. The site offers strong on-site utilities, including electricity, natural gas, and water, positioning Choctaw as a prime location for bio-based industrial development.
