Esterhazy’s ‘A’ rating indicates high prospective viability to support new biobased plant operations, with low risk associated with Feedstock Supply and Infrastructure in the Zone. The region features strong producer interest to support and supply flax straw projects, with no current competition for flax straw in the BDO Zone. Existing harvesting, collection, and transportation equipment can readily support the rated quantity without requiring scale-up. The region also highlights a positively rated infrastructure asset profile with public safety, healthcare, and land ownership systems.
“The ‘A’ rating highlights the potential to transform our flax straw resources into valuable bioproducts,” stated Randy Bot, Mayor, Town of Esterhazy. “We are eager to collaborate with bio-based companies to expand our flax straw value chain, create local jobs, and establish Esterhazy as a center for bio-based manufacturing.”
Jordan Solomon, Chairman of the BDO Zone Initiative, stated, “Esterhazy’s BDO Zone ‘A’ rating underscores the region’s strong potential to convert its underutilized flax straw resources into new bio-based industries. This recognition not only supports local economic growth in Esterhazy, but also positions the region as an emerging leader in Saskatchewan and a competitive player in the global bioeconomy, signaling to international investors and developers the area’s readiness for value-added manufacturing opportunities.”

About The BDO Zone Initiative
The Biofuel Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone Initiative certifies ‘regional readiness’ for bio-manufacturing, creates global connections and ignites an influx of new energy opportunities for farmers, economic developers, and rural businesses. A BDO Zone rating is an internationally recognized, standards-based technical risk assessment of a region’s feedstock, supply chain, and infrastructure risk with respect to the development potential for new biofuel plants. BDO Zone ratings are site location bullseyes for bio-project development. Investment grade ratings are force-multipliers for attracting new manufacturing plants to the areas where they are most likely to succeed, drive investment and create jobs.
