Carbon Markets
Ecostrat Carbon Markets · Carbon removal

97% of all the carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits sold have yet to be delivered.

These 49 million tons of undelivered CDR credits will require 2-5x their weight in feedstock, which will be sourced from a CDR supply chain that does not really exist.

CDR developers source feedstock one deal at a time, spend time and money gathering the requisite evidence for feedstock eligibility, and provide little economic incentive for feedstock suppliers to participate in CDR.

We are proving and moving feedstock to bridge these gaps and lay the foundation for bankable CDR supply chains that can scale to the gigaton era.

See who it’s for

Before your material can be used for CDR, a CDR developer has a long list to prove. Every ton of feedstock must be genuine, non-durable waste with no previous or potential downstream users. Chain of custody, weights, moisture, carbon content, contaminants, certifications, and legal sourcing must all be documented.

That work costs you and the CDR developer time and money, and it starts over with every new deal.

FEED does the work once. We package the evidence and analysis with a specific stream of your material. The results travel with the feedstock downstream to registries and verifiers.

Without this analysis, CDR registries fall back on feedstock price caps, a proxy test for market leakage that limits how much a CDR developer can pay above your current disposal arrangement. FEED replaces those proxy caps with direct evidence, so you get paid what your feedstock is worth.

Sell FEED-designated lots directly to CDR developers or through the FEEDstock Desk, which handles sales and delivery.

Turn a disposal cost into a CDR commodity.

For CDR developers, waste is only as valuable as the evidence and analysis that backs it. FEED provides the requisite diligence for each stream of your waste, turning your disposal liability into a CDR asset.

Allow low-value slash to pay its way out of the woods.

A FEED designation makes your biomass more valuable to CDR developers. Invasive species and slash you once paid to burn or haul become a commodity that helps pay for fuel reduction and cleanup.

Even feedstock you’re paid to take isn’t free.

The costs start upstream with origination, evidence gathering, hauling, and surprises like an endangered species on a harvest site. They follow the feedstock into your plant, where wet, contaminated, or off-spec loads drag down yield. And they can end at the registry, where weak evidence on counterfactual fate or leakage becomes a credit deduction or reversal. This risk in particular will grow as biofuel and low-carbon material producers compete for feedstocks with no other users today.

FEED addresses these costs and risks at the source. FEED runs a techno-economic analysis of each stream’s evidence against temporal supply shed data, producing counterfactual and market leakage findings that sit upstream of, and independent from, the price-paid proxies registries use to track leakage.

That work turns every stream into a designated commodity, which can be purchased directly from the supplier or through the FEEDstock Desk.

Buying through the FEEDstock Desk gives you a turnkey solution for your supply chain, with feedstock delivered to your site and evidence delivered to your verifier’s desk.

FEED replaces price heuristics with assembled evidence and analysis, built as inputs to registry frameworks. Registries, rating agencies, marketplaces, buyer advisors, buyers and investors can build that analysis into their own diligence. We want to work with you. Tell us what would make FEED more useful for you and your process.

Registries set the rules and issue the credits. FEED supplies the evidence and analysis for their verifiers to recompute.

How FEED stays independent

A FEED designation records that a stream’s evidence and analysis meet the published FEED standard. Registries and their verifiers decide whether that feedstock earns credits.

  • The FEED standard is public.
  • FEED fees are set before any designation and never depend on the outcome.
  • Before FEED issues its designation, the FEEDstock Desk discusses only a price range per ton.
  • FEED-designated lots can be sold to anyone, not just through the FEEDstock Desk.
  • Ecostrat never selects or pays the verifier, and every result can be recomputed.
  • A designation never depends on which market, or which FEEDstock Desk sale, earns Ecostrat more.

Ecostrat knows biomass

Ecostrat has been in the biomass business for 25 years. We’ve built one of the largest biomass supply networks in North America and use it to rate biomass supply sheds. The same data that shows where biomass has a market also shows where it has none. Our Carbon Markets division builds on that foundation for the future of the biomass economy.
